Central New York Community Foundation

In the Summer of 2018, the Young Naturalists were awarded a grant from the Central New York Community Foundation to expand the Young Naturalists program throughout Central New York to connect more young people to their local environment, with a focus on libraries in the city of Syracuse.

With this grant, we were able to hire college students as educators to help us grow and expand to more libraries, and provide them with an internship opportunity to grow their professional skills and educator skills.

With the help of this grant we have expanded into three new libraries in the Syracuse area, (Petit Branch, White Branch and Central Libraries) and have been able to educate more youth on the importance of their local environment. This grant has also provided funding for supplies that allow us to provide fun, hands-on and engaging programs to get participants about science and their local environment.

The Young Naturalists is a program of the CNY Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America, and we are very grateful for the National Izaak Walton League of America for their financial support and support via encouragement to keep the program going and letting us present at the national conference. The support from the National League has helped us continue with confidence in our program allowing us to grow and educate more young people in Central New York.
